The annual Ski Swap is this weekend at the Batawa Community Centre!
Drop off equipment on Friday November 3 from 5 pm – 8 pm (no straight skis or used helmets)
Sales are Saturday November 4th from 9 am -4 pm and Sunday November 5th from 10 am – 3 pm
Once again Batawa is offering our Annual Pre-season Training Camp to all of our racers at Mont Blanc on the weekend of December 8-10. Racers will be on the hill with coaches all day Saturday and a half day on Sunday. This is a fun family weekend. The cost is $192.69 per person (Children 5 and under are free) and includes the training camp, 2 nights accommodations, lift tickets for Saturday and Sunday, buffet breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, Roast beef dinner on Saturday and a coupon for 1 cafeteria lunch per person. Attached is all of the information and the registration form. Once again Michael Krock is organizing this trip on behalf of the BSRC. As we near the end of the ski race season for 2016/17, we thought now would be a good time to look back and the season and celebrate our successes.
The Batawa U10 ski racing team competed in their first race of the season at Brimacombe ski hill. Despite less than ideal conditions our youngest racers made us very proud. Placing in the top 10 this week were, Rachel Brady 8th, Maya Bianchi 9th and Anabella Cowling Zeljkovic 10th. In our boys’ division Batawa had Jack Henderson placing 8th, Robert Stevens in 9th and Walter Levesque in 10th.
The Batawa U10 ski racing team were back at Brimacombe ski hill this past weekend to compete in their second race of the season.
Congratulations to U10 Fastest Female Mia Del Grosso & Fastest Male Keith Bentley, and U8 Fastest Female Maya Bianchi & Fastest Male Antonio Popiel – the wins were based on fastest single time. These top three Batawa girls earned podium finishes for their combined times: first place for Mia Del Grosso, second for Teagan Moore, and third for Elena De Luca. Top three Batawa males: Antonio Popiel, Robert Stevens and Keith Bentley.
All of the Batawa team gave their all, and represented their hill with pride.
The U12 Batawa Wildcats started the race season at Brimacombe ski hill in Oshawa. Our Batawa girls rocked the day and made a complete podium sweep. Anna Schmoll had the fastest female time of the day and finished first overall. Haleigh MacPherson was close behind her in second followed by Molly Henderson in third. Holly Liu was 6th and Alexia Roma Bianchi in 8th. The Batawa girls fininshed 1st overall in the team competition. The Batawa boys also made us proud with Spencer Dullard-Krizay placing 4th and Jonah Hope placing 7th.
The U12 Batawa Wildcats competed in their second race of the season and first GS race at Devil’s Elbow. For the second time this season, our U12 girls managed a complete podium sweep. In first place was Haleigh MacPherson followed by Molly Henderson in second and Anna Schmoll in third. Holy Liu was fourth, Alexia Roma Bianchi seventh and Ileana De Luca 10th. Madeline Levesque, Andi Hunt, Sarah Parent and Sophia Smith all raced well today.
Our U12 boys also made us very proud. Spencer Dullard-Krizay placed fourth and Jonah Hope placed sixth. Honourable mention goes to Austin Barrett and Evander Bentley.
On Sunday, January 29, the U12 Batawa Wildcats competed in their 3rd race of the season at their home hill of Batawa . Our U12 girls continued with their winning streak and once again were able to take over the podium with amazing finishes in this Giant Slalom race. In first place, Batawa had Haleigh MacPherson, in second place, Anna Schmoll and in third place, Molly Henderson. Also placing in the top 10 were Alexia Bianchi in 4th place and Ileana De Luca in 6th. Racing well this race were also Madeline Levesque, Andi Hunt, Sophia Smith and Sara Parent. In the boys’ division, Spencer Dullard-Krizay placed 5th. Austin Barrett, Nickolas Thompson, Evander Bentley and Jonah Hope are also to be commended for their racing efforts.
This weekend our Batawa U12 Wildcats participated in their final official
race of the season at Brimacombe ski resort. Once again this group of
racers showed incredible talent and skill. Batawa’s Haleigh MacPherson
placed 1st and Anna Schmoll placed 2nd. Following close behind were Molly
Henderson in 4th, Holly Liu in 5th, Alexia Bianchi in 6th and Ileana De
Luca in 8th. Racers Andi Hunt, Sara Parent and Sophia Smith also raced
well. In the boys’ division, Spencer Dullard-Krizay placed 5th and Jonah
Hope 9th. Austin Barrett and Evander Bentley also raced well with two clean
runs. Way to go Batawa!
In addition to Sunday’s race, some of these racers continued on to race at
Craigleigh for a family day invitational. Congratulations to Haleigh
Macpherson, Anna Schmoll, Alexia Bianchi, Ileana De Luca, Molly Henderson,
Holly Liu and Spencer Dullard-Krizay. These racers all raced very well on a
very icy course and coaches Dave and Julie MacPherson were most proud of
The U14 Batawa Tigers competed in their first GS race of the season at Jozo, Blue Mountain. Isaac Hollinger was the fastest overall male racer of the day and took home his first gold medal of the season.
On Saturday, January 28th, the U14 Tigers competed in their second race of the season at Glacier Ski Racing Club which is at Mount St. Louis Moonstone near Barrie, Ontario. This team proved themselves to be small but mighty! With only 6 Batawa racers in total, these racers were faced with very tough competition including 71 girls and 44 boys. Congratulations goes to Emma Sabine-Craig who placed 2nd overall and Lydia Schmoll who placed 6th. In the boys’ division, once again Isaac Hollinger made us proud with the fastest time of the day leaving him with a 1st place finish. Jessica Bryson, Zack Selby and Nicolas MacPherson also raced well.
The Batawa U14 Tigers competed in their third race of the season at Hidden Valley Ski Resort. This slalom course was tough and our racers were met with serious competition! Making us proud and finishing her race in first place however was Emma Sabine- Craig. Emma is currently in first place division wise with her outstanding race performances thus far. Racers, Lydia Schmoll, Nicolas MacPherson and Isaac Hollinger should also be proud of their performances.

Valley this past Saturday. Congratulations to Batawa’s Emma Sabine-Craig
who took gold with incredible ease once again. In our boys’ race Batawa’s
Isaac Hollinger placed 4th.
The U16 Batawa Bandits had a great day at Horseshoe Valley Resort. A crisp, sunny day was the perfect day for a difficult Slalom course. The competition was stiff: Jozo Wieder, Craigleith, Georgian Peaks, Osler, Horseshoe Valley. The Batawa girls had success; Annissa Bray finished in second place overall, Chloe O’Boyle Kelly was 4th and Reena Lui was 8th. Strong performances from the rest of the team including Hannah O’Boyle Kelly, Maggie Chalk and boys: Padraigh Brady, Jake Hollinger, Ian Worgan, Caleb Roy, Jaxon Starbuck, Patrick Thompson, and first time racer Brad Bonner.
The U16 Batawa Bandits were at Blue Mountain in Collingwood on Sunday for the second race and first GS race. Warm, soft conditions made for an extra challenge but that didn’t stop Chloe O’Boyle Kelly from having the fastest time overall on the first run at 33.75 and winning gold for the girls. Reena Lui was 6th. Ian Worgan was the fastest boy for Batawa. Hannah O’Boyle Kelly, Maggie Chalk and Annissa Bray competed for the girls. Jake Hollinger, Padraigh Brady, Caleb Roy, Patrick Thompson, Jaxon Starbuck and Brad Bonner were there for the boys. Next weekend the Bandits will be back in Collingwood at Georgian Peaks for the second Slalom race.
Sunday,January 29th was a great day for the U16 Bandits. Cold temperatures, freshly fallen snow and an icy base made for a tricky Slalom course. The competition was stiff, Jozo Wieder, Horseshoe Valley, Osler, Craigleith and Georgian Peaks were ready for action. Results for the girls: Chloe O’Boyle Kelly was second overall combined time 1:15.84. Annissa Bray was 3rd. 1:17.76. Reena Liu was 5th 1:20.21, Hannah O”Boyle Kelly was 11th and Maggie Chalk was 23rd out of 44 racers. Results for the boys: Jake Hollinger was 5th with a combined time of 1:12.01, Padraigh Brady was 13th, Jaxon Starbuck was 20th out of 70 racers. The last regular competition race with be next weekend at Craigleith Ski Club in Collingwood.
The U16 Batawa Bandits were at Craigleith Ski Club Sunday for an extremely fast Giant Slalom Race. The team fought the hard-packed, steep slope and had good results. For the girls Reena Lui came 5th combined time 58.51 and Annissa Bray was 7th (59.01), Hannah O’Boyle Kelly was 16th and Maggie Chalk was 23rd. Chloe O’Boyle Kelly DNF the first run but had a very fast second run. The girls team finished third overall against Craigleith, Georgian Peaks, Osler, Jozo and Horseshoe.
The boys did well with Jake Hollinger finishing 3rd overall with a combined time of 56.07. Caleb Roy was 13th, Jaxon Starbuck was 17th, Patrick Thompson was 39th and Brad Bonner was 40th. Padraigh Brady and Ian Worgan were DNF.
The U19 Batawa Ski Racers competed in two Giant Slalom competitions this past weekend against athletes from across Southern Ontario. Following the female racers, the BSRC athletes competed in a field of 71 male racers on frozen granular courses. Each day the courses brought challenges to the racers as they fought hard to give it their all on the steep terrain.
On Saturday, January 28th the team was at Craigleith. Kurtis Wright finished 21st, Craig Luery had two successful clean runs but Eric Cholasta lost a ski coming over the pitch and was unable to get a combined time. On Sunday the team traveled to Devil’s Glenn. Eric Cholasta finished a strong 13th but Kurtis Wright who had the unfortunate fall on the steep icy course.
The athletes will travel to Caledon for their first Slalom race of the season on Feb. 5th.
The U19 Batawa Ski Racing team consisting of Eric Cholasta, Craig Luery and Kurtis Wright competed in a Slalom course on Sunday, February 5th at Caledon Ski Club. Their first run started with 79 eager male racers but after the second run only 45 of these racers had two clean runs to create combined times. Kurtis was among these racers who challenged the course with success, finishing 14th overall. Eric was 9th after his first run but with an unfortunate fall could not get a combined time. On deck: The team heads to Mansfield Ski Club for another Slalom race.The U19 Batawa Ski Racing team consisting of Eric Cholasta, Craig Luery and Kurtis Wright competed in a Slalom course on Sunday, February 5th at Caledon Ski Club.
